Ozone sanitation for produce is environmentally friendly, completely sustainable and organic certified. In use, ozone sanitation provides highly effective reduction of pathogenic microorganisms. The results are improved produce safety, and product quality. Storing fruits and vegetables in an atmosphere with a low concentration of gaseous ozone can significantly improves produce safety, product quality and pack-out. Ozone in a water solution has been repeatedly shown to be more effective than PAA or Chlorine on packing lines as a final antimicrobial treatment.

 

The gaseous ozone atmosphere provides excellent control of mold sporulation and nesting among bin fruit, helps suppress ethylene production. Properly maintained and operated, ozone cold storage systems control spoilage and increase pack-out to yield higher profits. Proper instrumentation, monitoring, calibration, and process control are essential to ozone cold storage systems.

 

Ozone sanitation systems generate an ozone-enriched water stream that is 50% stronger than comparable peracetic acid (PAA) or chlorine-based sanitizers. Because of its significantly higher oxidizing power, ozone can be applied at significantly lower doses than either chlorine or PAA. Ozone also reverts to oxygen after reaction, leaving no chemical residues that can impact product taste or appearance. Since it is generated as-needed, ozone systems eliminate the need for costly chemical storage, handling and use, and provide safer working conditions. Customers report lower operating and lifecycle costs, and better ROI with ozone systems versus chemical-based sanitation.

 

Direct contact packing line systems provide superior sanitation and can be used on a wide range of fruits and vegetables. In addition to direct use for product sanitation, ozone systems can provide double-duty for wash down sanitation of belts, conveyors, floors, equipment and drains in and around the packing line.
